Voyage to the Doctor
I have a major health condition that gets worse when I am stressed. There are very few specialists available on the Vineyard. To go to a specialist, this is the route you have to take: the ferry, to the bus, to South Station, to the Red Line, to the Green Line and finally walking. It’s a twelve-hour day, and costs at least $75. This is the voyage to Boston and I schedule the trip so that I have two appointments on the same day. Because of the stress of living in poverty, it seems I have one health condition after another. Stress makes my conditions worse and getting to the doctor is expensive, which causes added stress.
