A team of trained interviewers conduct interviews with caregivers of children under the age of 4 years old in the Emergency Department at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. While caregivers are waiting to be seen by doctors and nurses, an interviewer asks questions about many aspects of their child's development and household. These include questions about: food insecurity, developmental risk factors, maternal depressive symptoms, oral health, energy and housing insecurity, and access to and participation in state and federal program assistance, such as WIC, TANF, and SNAP. We also record the child's height and weight. All caregivers receive a small gift for their time.
