The Building Wealth and Health Network provides parents and caregivers the opportunity to: 

  • Open a matched savings account at a local credit union with incentives for ongoing savings
  • Receive up to $370 in cash incentives
  • Increase income and savings
  • Have access to one-on-one meetings with a financial coach or a self-empowerment coach as needed
  • Improve mental and physical health and wellbeing
  • Develop goals and plans to shape their own future
  • Build a community of peers to support them in achieving their goals

Class Topics

Class topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Understanding financial and banking terms
  • Reading your credit report and fixing your credit score
  • Building your savings
  • Developing a budget
  • Understanding housing documents (leases, mortgages)
  • Creating achievable goals
  • Creating a personal safety plan
  • Overcoming your fears
  • Assessing healthy and unhealthy relationships
  • Managing stress

Location: University City/West Philadelphia


To be eligible to join, you must:

  • Be a parent or caregiver for a child under the age of 18
  • Be currently receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), also known as cash welfare or have received TANF within the past four years
