An editorial in the Philadelphia Inquirer on November 15 highlighted the Real Cost of a Healthy Diet: 2011 report by the Center for Hunger-Free Communities and Children's HealthWatch that found that maximum SNAP benefits fail to meet the cost of food for many families.

A new report, "The Real Cost of a Healthy Diet: 2011," released by Center for Hunger-Free Communities and Children's HealthWatch shows that families receiving the maximum SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefit are still struggling to provide enough healthy food for their families.

Hunger, Homelessness & Poverty: Impact on College Students Conference

The "Hunger, Homelessness & Poverty: Impact on College Students Conference" was held on Thursday, October 13, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Great Hall at the Community College of Philadelphia. The conference was designed to provide a forum for dialogue about the increasing issues of hunger, homelessness and poverty among college students and to identify what can be done to meet this growing problem.

The Center for Hunger-Free Communities and Witnesses to Hunger staff presented a workshop on "Implementing the Sanctuary® model in Impoverished Communities" at the Sanctuary Institute Network Conference on November 16 and 17 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains, New York.
