Valedictorian

I was in a shelter for a year and a half, living with my mom and all her kids. The whole shelter situation - it was hard but it wasn’t.  It was just like, I want to get my apartment, I want this for her, I want this for me.  So that was easy.  The hardest part was still being in school.  There were times that I missed like a whole entire week. But it came out ok – I was valedictorian of my high school, and I won a thousand dollar scholarship. I had to give a speech, that basically just talked about everything I was going through, and where I was going to go next. I was happy.
